Red Lobster - Fairfield, CA

Red Lobster

Fairfield, CA 94533

Superb service from Conrad C. at this Red Lobster next to the Solano Mall...but the cheddar biscuits weren't as good as I remembered having them years ago (they were a bit dense). The Caesar salad was good and very typical but the Maui shrimp & salmon didn't taste as good as it looked. The zesty shrimp was the better of the two as the salmon was disappointingly overcooked.

If you're looking for a fresh alternative to fast food, Panera Bread's menu is a refreshing change...but be prepared to overpay for their cafeteria food. The soups are better than their sandwiches and salads - the chicken and wild rice is fantastic and the tomato soup is topped with delicious Asiago croutons.

Shutters Brasserie - Brentwood, CA

Shutters Brasserie
2013 Elkins Way
Brentwood, CA 94513

shuttersbrasserie.com

Shutters Brasserie is the last thing you'd expect to find in its light industrial location among warehouses, surrounded by residential neighborhoods. There is a A-frame sign with "Shutters Brasserie" on it to ensure you that your navigation is not malfunctioning...you are indeed at the right place.

We came here for the first time (believe me, everyone who comes here MEANS to come here) and found the service to be exceptional and the food quite good. This dish was excellent:

Idaho Boneless Trout - Pan-Roasted with Brown Butter Sage, Over Warm Baby Spinach, Lentil, Asparagus, and Sweet Corn, Roasted Walnut, Balsamic Reduction $17

The Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo deserves 5 stars on its own...MMM! Tonight, we decided to try a new menu item, the Sausage Rollatini, and it was pretty tasty and a super value at $9.95 (which includes unlimited soup or salad).

Speaking of which, I've always loved their Zuppa Toscana, but they have a new soup I tried for the first time, the Chicken & Gnocchi...and it became an equal favorite of mine!

Panera Bread scores high in service, cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Their food is average-to-good for the cafeteria type establishment. Soups are the best (especially the chicken and wild rice), followed by salads (I've only tried their Greek Salad) but their tuna salad was so bland, I wouldn't order it again.

Leo's Chinese Restaurant - Danville, CA

Leo's Chinese Restaurant
105 Town & Country Dr.
Danville, CA 94526
(925) 820-8887
leochineserestaurant.com

This restaurant location next to Kinder's was previously known as DeMing's Asian Restaurant, but now it's Leo's Chinese Restaurant. Excellent service and even better food...what a great discovery!

For an additional $4.50, you get a crab meat puff, egg roll, soup (hot & sour or won ton) and rice (fried or steamed). We ordered a variety of dishes tonight:

Honey Sesame Chicken - very good, but the other two dishes were superior to this one.

Tangerine Beef - this is definitely the BEST Chinese dish I've ever had!!!

Seafood Combination - this is my favorite Chinese seafood dish; their prawns, fish filet, scallop, calamari and veggies served on the sizzling hot iron platter was delightfully scrumptious!

Honey Sesame Chicken $9.50

Tangerine Beef $10.95

Seafood Combination $12.95

Brentwood Nines - Brentwood, CA

Brentwood Nines
100 Summerset Drive
Brentwood, CA 94513
(925) 516-3400
ninesatbrentwood.com

Nines quite possibly has the best burger in the Bay Area...and it's not even Kobe Beef! We haven't been here since they changed ownership from Bunkers Grille and we noticed a vast improvement in quality of food. Kudos to you and we'll be back again and again for your "Whole Nines Yards" burger!

Alaskan Halibut $19.95 - Pan-seared Parmesan-encrusted fillet of halibut, topped with a tomato-basil compote.

The “Whole Nines Yards” Burger $9.95 - Half pound of ground chuck grilled to order and served on an onion roll with your choice of toppings: avocado, bacon, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, Jack, Swiss, Bleu and Cheddar cheese.

You can add an iceberg wedge (topped with Gorgonzola cheese crumbles, beefsteak tomato, fried onion strings, cucumber and carrots) or Caesar (Romaine with Parmesan garlic sourdough croutons) side salad for an additional $1.50, which is well worth it and both are delicious.

TIP: Substitute their fries (good) for asparagus (AWESOME!)

Marie Callender's - Stockton, CA

Marie Callender's
2628 W. March Lane
Stockton, CA 95207
(209) 952-0054
mcpies.com

This Marie Callender's is conveniently located on March Lane, just east of I-5. We've had good service every time we ate here and their salad bar seems to always be fresh. Just wish they had sunflower seeds...

Also, we ate breakfast here once (their weekday special) and it was pretty good and pretty cheap. I wasn't even aware that Marie Callender's served breakfast!
