The Cheesecake Factory - Pleasanton, CA

The Cheesecake Factory
1350 Stoneridge Mall Rd
Pleasanton, CA 94588
(925) 463-1311
thecheesecakefactory.com

This was our first visit here and we came during their "Happy Hour" (which I don't agree with because they don't have drink specials, so what exactly makes it "Happy"???) between 4-6pm on weekdays in the bar. At least there was no wait, at 5pm on a Monday afternoon.

The nice thing about Happy Hour (???) is you can get a mini-portion of a variety of dishes between $3-5 each. A hungry party of two will be quite full after sharing five dishes...with no room for cheesecake, unfortunately.

Here is my ranking order of the dishes we tried:

1. Ahi Tempura Roll ($4.95) - Absolutely, fantastically delicious!!! Why only three pieces...WHY??? Two people cannot share this dish well, but you can bet I will remember that next time it's MY turn to get two pieces!

2. Chopped Salad ($3.95) - Apples, bacon, blue cheese and corn make a yummy-licious salad. Loved the presentation as a "mountain" of salad. I will definitely order this again!

3. Avocado Egg Rolls ($3.95) - The tamarind-cashew dipping sauce can make anything delightful! At least this dish came with four pieces, unlike the Ahi Roll...

4. Fried Calamari ($3.95) - Garlic dip was good. The calamari breading was quite fragile and a lot of chunks fell off in the dip.

5. Roadside Sliders ($3.95) - Three sliders served with sliced pickles on a bed of lettuce. The grilled onions and ketchup were so very, extremely sparse on the li'l burgers, we had to ask for more. Of course, by the time the extra grilled onions were brought out, the burgers got a little cold. Had they been prepared right the first time, these would have been #3 on m list...oh, well.

Next time, we'll have to go back just to have some cheesecake!

Yum.

Donut Wheel is located on the corner of 1st Street and South L Street in downtown Livermore. There always seems to be someone either ordering donuts, sitting inside eating donuts or standing outside eating donuts, every single time I've ever passed by the Donut Wheel. After all, they were the only place in Livermore that was open 24 hours a day until the recent opening of Sharis Restaurant & Pies on Railroad Avenue.

My favorites are their regular glazed donuts and donut holes, glazed French donuts and chocolate cake donuts with chocolate frosting and peanuts. He prefers the chocolate old-fashioned, French donuts with chocolate frosting and chocolate cake donuts with chocolate frosting.

Donut Wheel has lines around the block during Livermore Downtown's Annual Halloween Carnival...because they offer FREE DONUTS!!! :)

TIP: To recreate an authentic "fresh glazed donut" experience, microwave a plain raised glazed donut for 10-12 seconds, then eat. Trust me, just do it!

P.S. Their chocolate cake donuts with chocolate frosting and peanuts are a surprising discovery for me (who doesn't like anything sickly sweet) because they aren't as rich as they look. I save these for those chocolate cravings that usually happen around midnight...good thing Donut Wheel is open 24 hours...or maybe that's a bad thing...

Simply Greek - Pleasanton, CA

Mmm...I can't wait to go back here and try everything on their menu! Went here last night for the first time and ordered a gyros (a la carte) with no onions and extra tzatziki (YUM!) For dessert, I tried the rizogalo (rice pudding with cinnamon) and that was delicious...and the portion was large enough for two, just keep that in mind!

Prices are very reasonable, the place was spotlessly clean, service was fast and the owner is wonderful...like every other Greek person I've ever met! I now have my Greek food go-to in the Tri-Valley. Can't wait till they start adding new items to the menu, such as soup (can you say Avgolemono?)

Efcharisto, efcharisto, efcharisto!

Their orange-flavored beef and lemon chicken is excellent and have become my "regular" items when dining here. I wasn't as fond of their kung pao trio and cashew chicken, they were edible but forgettable. The restaurant is clean, service is wonderful and fast and the food arrives steaming hot.

Wow, I've found my favorite sushi restaurant in the Tri-Valley! Sozo is a great place for specialty rolls (the Marilyn Monroll is awesome and so is the Three Amigos roll!)

As far as traditional sushi, I don't know yet...they were out of Shiro Maguro, my favorite Nigiri.

Service was wonderful and I can't wait to enjoy my next experience at Sozo!

Railroad Cafe - Livermore, CA

Railroad Cafe

Livermore, CA 94550

Friendly service, but their Corned Beef Hash breakfast is mediocre at best. Unfortunately, I think Mimis Cafe's Corned Beef Hash breakfast has me spoiled...it's a much better deal with FRESH, not canned, corned beef and a yummy muffin and juice (orange is freshly-squeezed!) for less money than Railroad Cafe charges.

Tried their Reese's Peanut Butter and Chocolate fondue (my absolute FAVE sweets combination!) and was a bit disappointed. Maybe my hopes were too high, but I was expecting maybe a 50/50 peanut butter to chocolate ratio. Sadly, I think it was more like 25/75 - I could hardly taste the peanut butter!

Our server was also giving me a facial with all the steam coming from the pot; luckily another server walked by and turned the heat down.

I really wanted to love this place, so I don't have to make the trip to Saratoga for fondue nights...oh well.
